Mercy Orphanage
Home (Takoradi)
An orphanage is a safe haven for children who have lost their parents due to death or custody issues, or have experienced abuse or mental illness at home. There may be other reasons why a child is taken into an orphanage, such as parents who are unwilling or unable to care for them.
In the United States of America and more countries, the term orphanage is no longer used instead what you have is foster homes or children’s home.
Just like any other country, Ghana also has a significant number of orphans and abandoned children. Unfortunately, the number of children falling into this category is increasing rapidly. While some children rely on neighborhood connections to form makeshift families and fend for themselves, many others are taken in by orphanages across the country.
Although there is no exact data on the number of orphanages in Ghana, it is safe to say that there are only a few of them. While some orphanages are registered, many others are not. However, it is important to note that several children in unregistered orphanages are not actually orphans. Instead, these institutions use them as a means to attract sponsors.
It’s heartwarming to know that Mercy Home, a cozy orphanage in Sekondi-Takoradi, takes care of around 20 to 30 children aged 2 to 17. The pastor and his wife manage the orphanage with loving care. The Nadig Charity Foundation is doing an incredible job by offering annual aid to the orphanage in the form of clothing, school supplies, food, and other essentials, making a significant impact on the lives of these children.
